What causes teeth whitening pain?

Whitening products use a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide solution that bleach stains by breaking their bonds. This process however can also cause damage to the enamel and de-cap the enamel and expose tubules (tiny tubes) that provide access to nerves and pain receptors.

Do whitening treatments damage teeth?

A quick google review of the internet suggests that whitening treatments are safe and most side effects are relatively short lasting.

A clinical study published I the British Dental Journal  found that “Bleaching treatment, irrespective of method, caused a high prevalence of side effects”. The most common being tooth sensitivity at home 50.3%, in practice 39.3% and gingival (gum) irritation. With smokers having significantly more reactions. There are additional risks that have been reported from in vitro studies which include tooth erosion, tooth mineral degradation, increased susceptibility to demineralization, and pulpal damage source.

Should I undertake a whitening treatment? We recommend you undertake your treatment with a suitably qualified dental professional. Though we do recommend you use BioMin to reduce the chances of sensitivity and demineralisation from occurring.

How does BioMin work?

BioMin starts by hardening the tooth and reversing early decay by remineralising the teeth. In preparation for whitening BioMin starts to ‘occlude’ or seal any exposed tubules that may be present. It is generally recommended that BioMin be used at least 2 weeks prior to whitening treatment, longer use may improve results.  The whitening treatment(s) can de-cap the enamel and expose tubules, BioMin can then help ‘occlude’ or seal these tubules.

How long should I use BioMin?

BioMin is a high-performance toothpaste that is designed to be used on an ongoing basis. Most BioMin customers swap their supermarket brands for BioMin and benefit from its unique technology.

Why have I not heard of BioMin before?

BioMin is a small brand that has a cult following. With large brands spending more than $100 million to advertise it is difficult to gain market awareness through traditional mediums. BioMin’s sales success are an outcome of word of mouth, dental professional recommendations, and customer reviews.

Does BioMin have a fluoride free option?

Yes. We recommend BioMin F  (fluoridated) for the best results, it uses 60% less fluoride than regular toothpaste but its unique technology effectively uses fluoride more efficiently. For those not wanting fluoride we have BioMin C.
